Police were alerted to the discovery of the body of a fetus in a garbage bin on Paradise Island on Tuesday.

Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent, Sheria King provided reporters with details of the discovery from the scene. “An employee was cleaning debris from waters on the dock of the marina when he discovered a fetus in a bag. Police would like to say that we do not know where the origin of this bag came from. However, what we want to do is appeal to the Bahamian public at large if you have any information in reference to this matter to please come to the police and assist us in this investigation. A person may need medical assistance and that person can get that medical assistance,” Kin

In a message to mothers the Chief Superintendent said there is there is always help. “Reach out to for help. There is someone out there, social services, the government, churches that can help you during this time.”

The Coroner is in charge of the investigation of this incident. An autopsy is expected to be performed.
