Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe gave an update on the cause of the Victoria Avenue and East West Highway fires on Wednesday while attending a Bahamas Department Of Correctional Services (BDOCS) recruits event.

He said, “on the Solomon’s, Department of Labour fire I haven’t received the report. I haven’t seen a report on that fire as to the cause. I know there was some dispute between the two parties as to what may have caused it.”

Munroe also spoke about the resources of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Services Department. “They want to order three or four ladder trucks cause we don’t have any in the capital.”

On the availability of trained firefighters Munroe said, “the fire chief of the Royal Bahamas Police Force was specifically trained for that, that is all he does. The firefighters who are specifically trained for that.” According to the Minister 30 of the BDOCS recruits will be trained by the fire services.

In response to the Opposition’s questioning of the response to the recent fires Munroe said they are free to second guess the fire professionals. He said he does not second guess trained Bahamian professionals.
