Leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) and Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard led a press event on Sunday where he revealed his Party’s crime plan should they win the next general election.
The ten point plan focuses on policing, justice and intervention programs for at risk young people. He said, “we must hire and retain more officers. The government boasts about the hiring, they are not telling us the story about retention. An FNM government will fix the shortage of front line officers. We will launch a major recruitment drive guided by the FNM’s manpower audit. It was left in place. The question is why have they not.”
The FNM leader said his party will invest in crime prevention initiatives as a public health issue. “That is tackling drugs, gangs and causes of violence. Today, we recommit, because we’ve already said it, to the minister with responsibility for education and to the Prime Minister, the Free National Movement is prepared to join the government in educating parents, all of our school children, the public of the implications of the act that we just recently passed related to dismantling gangs.”
Pintard also promised to commission a review of policing within the first year in office, to clear court backlogs and to address bail.
