FNM Leadership Nominations

Bahamian Media News:

On Friday, the Free National Movement (FNM) carried out the nomination process for the leadership race at its upcoming convention. Former leader, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis and current leader the Hon. Michael Pintard were both successfully nominated for the leadership position.

Dr. Minnis, who was the first to complete the nomination process told reporters he wants to run because he has not completed some of the things he wanted to do.

Michael Pintard arrived at the FNM Headquarters with noticeably more supporters behind him. Some of whom were former FNM Deputy Leaders Peter Turnquest and Brent Symonette and current members of Parliament.

After successfully nominating, Pintard told those gathered, “we want all of you to join this fight. Send a clear message to this general public that we heard after September of 2021. That we needed to pivot as an organization. That we need to be more inclusive. For all the good we did there are some things we did not get right. We are the correction to what we didn’t get right.”

The Most. Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis became leader of the FNM is 2012. He went on to become Prime Minister in 2017. He did not content the leadership race at the Party’s convention held in November 2021 after their defeat at the polls.

The Hon. Michael Pintard is a former Cabinet Minister and become leader of the FNM at its convention held in November 2021 where he ran against Iram Lewis and Kwasi Thompson.

The FNM convention is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 1st.
