The Forestry Unit hosted its Annual Conference on Thursday March 19, 2026, marking a successful observance of Forestry Awareness Week and reaffirming the nation’s commitment to sustainable environmental management.

Under the theme Forests and the Economy, the conference facilitated meaningful dialogue on the critical connection between environmental stewardship and national development. Discussions highlighted the vital role forests play in supporting livelihoods, strengthening climate resilience, and contributing to long term economic stability in The Bahamas.

The event was attended by Zane Lightbourne, whose presence underscored the importance of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in guiding forestry policy and sustainable resource management. Also in attendance were Danielle Hanek, Dr. Ancilleno Davis, Marcia D. Musgrove, and Deon Stuart, representing leadership across government, academia, conservation, and international development sectors.

The participation of these stakeholders reflects the collaborative and multi sectoral approach required to strengthen forestry management, expand conservation initiatives, and promote sustainable economic opportunities.
