Girl Guides Gala

Girl Guides Gala

Bahamian Media News:

The Bahamas Girl Guides Association hosted a gala at Breezes Resort this past weekend where they honour twenty six Bahamians for fifty years of service to the organization.

Assistant Chief Commissioner Elma Garraway spoke to ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. She said, “we know we have grown. We know we have positively impacted the lives of thousands of girls. And many of the women who are first in their careers in this country have been persons who came through the Bahamas Girl Guides Association. And those of us who are being honoured, it provides motivation, it provides inspiration, it provides affirmation for parents whose children are entrusted to our care as Sunflowers, Brownies, Guides, Rangers. And of course all the wonderful young leaders exemplified in our new Chief Commissioner Mrs. Leja Burrows.”

Honouree Louise Barry said, “I’m happy that we have been showcased because as volunteers we do a whole lot for whoever we’re volunteering to serve and in this case our girls and young women. And recognition of volunteerism isn’t really high on the agenda in our country.

Also among the twenty six people honoured at the gala event were Alvin Rolle and Anita Bernard.
