Golden Jubilee Independence Ecumenical Service

Bahamian Media News:

The traditional yearly ecumenical service was held on Clifford Park during the Military Tattoo and Cultural Show on July 9th in celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence.

Religious leaders representing multiple denominations in the country offered prayers for the nation, family and leaders. The message was delivered by President of the Bahamas Christian Council Apostle Delton Fernander.

Fernander told the thousands assembled at the park, “we can’t keep changing plans every five years. We’ve got to realize that it is more of us who are of a national perspective. I don’t care what church you go to. I don’t care what party you belong to. Let us lift up a spirit of oneness, this is our land.”

The Christian Council President continued saying, “this nation was founded on God. We cannot and must not yield, hear me Bahamas, to the external pressures that wish to take Christian values. We cannot allow external forces to lead our people. We’ve come too far to have people who don’t share the same values, who don’t worship the same God, that don’t lift up the same Jesus to tell us how to live.”
