Government Apartment Complex Renovation

Bahamian Media News:

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal intends to carry out extensive renovations on the government’s rental units on Windsor Lane.

Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal, the Hon. Keith Bell attended a meeting held on Thursday to inform residents of the government’s plans for the 30 year old buildings.  He told ZNS News that the motive behind the renovations is to ensure the people are living in good conditions.  “We want to make sure that the government is a good landlord and that all of our units are properly renovated, the people are living in very good conditions,” he said.

The minister pointed out that several of the units were vacant, boarded up and have broken windows and missing doors.  Bell said, “it is our intention to renovate these units but we want to do more than that.  We came today to meet with the residents to put them in a position and inspire them to perhaps moving towards home ownership which was the original vision of Sir Lynden Pindling that is that persons who will be moved in these government rental units would subsequently be moved out into their own homes and that is what we want to come back and reignite that vision.”

The meeting was held at the apartment complex on Windsor Lane.
