Grand Bahama Hospital Groundbreaking

Bahamian Media News:

A groundbreaking and contract signing ceremony was held on the island of Grand Bahama for the new hospital facility set to begin construction. A number of government officials led by Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis were on hand for the event along with the management of the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA).

Chairman of the PHA Andrew Edwards told the gathering, “the entire country and indeed the PHA has heard your pleas and cries. Although long overdue today we break ground on a new state of the art health campus here in Grand Bahama. Grand Bahama, I can assure you that this is real. This is not a promise. This is not talk, this is action at work.”

Also on hand at the event was the Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville who said, “we all know the challenges that we currently face with the Rand Memorial Hospital and the services provided here. And from government to government we have been tagging along trying to do our best and the time has finally come. After years of hard work with professionals who are here to celebrate and those who may even passed on.”

The keynote address was delivered by Prime Minister Davis. “Today is an extraordinary day for residents of Grand Bahama and the city of Freeport. I am thrilled to be present for this momentous occasion. In just a few minutes we’ll commence the groundbreaking of the Freeport Health Campus initiating the construction of a groundbreaking outpatient and urgent care facility that will cater to the needs of Grand Bahamians and the northern Bahamian residents for generations to yet come. It is particularly noteworthy that this endeavour begins during a year when Bahamians nationwide and around the globe commemorate the golden anniversary of our national independence,” Davis said.

Phase one of construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
