Groundbreaking For New Home Of Fire Victim

Bahamian Media News:

Ellen Sherman lost her home in the Golden Gates community eight months ago to a fire. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday for a new home set to be built for her and her family.

A visibly emotional Sherman told those in attendance at the ceremony, “thank you to me is a small word but y’all don’t know how much it means to us. I love my community. I love my neighbours. I love them and they’ve all been there.”

Sherman’s new home will be constructed by Arawak Homes. She said, “they gave me the choice of three which was a Long Island, a Berry Island and Eleuthera and I chose Eleuthera. You know the Eleuthera model depict the same footprint of the first house which was the three bedroom, all the bedrooms on the west hand side and the kitchen and everything lined up on the eastern side.”

On hand at the groundbreaking was President of Arawak Homes Franon Wilson who spoke to ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. “This home is going to start before the paperwork is even finalized. So this home, we’re going to be working for the paper to catch up with the construction. We want this family in their home as soon as possible,” Wilson said.

Area Member of Parliament, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle also attended the event and delivered remarks. She said, “to God be the glory. May his richest blessings be over your new home. Every door, every window from foundation to rooftop Jehovah Jireh was with you, clearly. And there be nothing but blessings on this new home. New memories, new journey, new things.”

The property was blessed by the Rector of St. Gregory’s Anglican Church Father Sebastian Campbell.
