Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Myles Laroda spoke to the government’s plan for a new boarding school for at risk boys during his contribution to the 2024-2025 budget debate on Tuesday.
Laroda told Parliamentarians the school will “include a psychological, educational, academic and vocational criteria and a multi discipline board school approach for at risk boys between ages fourteen years and older. The primary elements of the program are inclusive of academic development, therapy, emotional development, career skills development and physical development. These features will be encompassed with housing, trauma informed staff and family involvement components that aim to provide positive family structure for the students, staff training and various forms of family engagement. This program will also be scalable and therefore adaptable to other daytime school populations.”
