HOA: Labour Relations Booming

Bahamian Media News:

Minister of Labour and the Public Service and Member of Parliament for Golden Gates, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle spoke about some of the successes of her ministry’s initiatives while contributing to the mid-year budget in the House of Assembly on Thursday.

Speaking on labour relations, Glover-Rolle told Parliamentarians that since assuming office 54 industrial agreements have been signed by the Davis administration valued at approximately $40 million. She said, “these agreement deliver salary and benefit increases for tens of thousands of government and private sector employees and now matter how people try to say what didn’t happen $40 million in the pockets of Bahamian workers is seen and felt by those workers.”

The Minister also clarified the difference between the PSPEP and 52 weeks programmes. “The fact is that the group of 1200 that they speak of and the group of the 725 participants are generally comprised of completely different people. The 1200 participants whose appointment processes were initiated by the Minnis administration were honoured by the Davis administration. The vast majority of these participants were appointed and continue to work for the government to this day. However there were some for whom the process was not properly administered.”

On succession planning Glover-Rolle said the former administration did not promote within the service to fill gaps. According to the minister the lack of proper human resources management worsened what she called the hollow middle.
