Members of the House Of Assembly paid tribute to the late Hon. A. Loftus Roker on Wednesday. Roker previously served as the Member of Parliament for Nicholls Town and the Berry Islands and Minister of National Security and Immigration.
Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador, the Hon. Philip Davis said, “in every role he served, as Minister of National Security and Immigration or in any other capacity, he was guided by a moral compass that pointed steadfastly towards justice, integrity and the welfare of the Bahamian people. His approach to governance was marked by the characteristic candour, a candour that was both refreshing a very often necessary. As we reflect on the passing of the Hon. Archibald Loftus Roker we are reminded of the sobering reality that with his departure only three framers of our cherished constitution remain.”
Also paying tribute to the late Parliamentarian was Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Marco City, the Hon. Michael Pintard who said Roker was “committed to majority rule and independence.
Pintard also said, “an attorney by profession, Mr. Roker served on the frontlines of political life for several decades. As a Member of Parliament, as a Cabinet Minister he was forthright in his views including a strong commitment to protecting our borders. His views on immigration I need not litigate, its well known.”
The Hon. A. Loftus Roker died on May 13th at the age of 88.
