Hurricane Season Opens On June 1st

Bahamian Media News:

Hurricane season begins on June 1st and ends November 30th every year. Ensuring that your property and other valued possessions are insured is a part of the process of hurricane preparedness.

J. S. Johnson Vice President of Claims, Edward Albury recently spoke with ZNS News about hurricane insurance. He informed that though insurance is available for purchase year round when a storm is named and headed toward the country a moratorium is placed on hurricane insurance sales.

After the passage of Hurricane Dorian in 2019 it was found that a number of Bahamians did not have hurricane insurance. Albury said, “because of climate change hurricanes now are going to be more severe and this is going to be more the norm rather than the one of experience so we can expect that their going to be very severe, pretty much in line with what we saw in Dorian.”

Hurricane preparedness tips are featured on the J.S. Johnson website.
