IAAF World Relays Return May 2024

Bahamian Media News:

A press conference was held at the National Sports Authority on Thursday to announce the return of the IAAF World Relays to The Bahamas.

Leading the panel of speakers was Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg. He said, “the administration understands that exposure that sports can bring to this country and we understand what events such as this will bring to the country, also with its economic boost. And so we’re looking forward for a good time. As stated earlier, the road to paradise begins in The Bahamas and so, you will see countries from all over the world coming here to partake in these world relays to ensure that they find a spot in the Olympics.”

President of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) Drameco Archer was also on hand at the press event and spoke of The Bahamas as the ideal location for the races to be held. “When we had an opportunity once again we were one of the bidders of this edition and I think it was an overwhelming consideration for The Bahamas. I think it has much to do with our location and proximity and the energy that we bring. When you talk about the decibels and the sound impact when you’re in our stadium. And we have the ability to really have an event that’s unique,” Archer said.

Thirty two countries are expected to be represented at the relays which will take place May 4th-5th, 2024.
