The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Country Representative, Dr. Eldonna Boisson is voicing concern about the low immunization rate in The Bahamas.

Boisson spoke on the topic at a recent press event. She said, “you run the risk of an outbreak at this point in time and that’s not only going to affect health, as you’re well aware that will affect tourism as well. So what could we do? The answer is simple, ladies and gentlemen, we have to ensure that all children are immunized with two doses of Measle, Mumps, Rubella vaccine. This will protect the children and it will prevent spread of the potentially very severe disease.”

PAHO is partnering with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to conduct a vaccination campaign and free immunizations. The initiative will also include door to door visits.
