Improving The Post Office

Bahamian Media News:

Acting Post Master General, Shervonne Johnson spoke with ZNS News about the changes that are being implemented to improve services at the General Post Office.

Johnson said, “some people have had really bad experiences with the post office in terms of getting the mail delivered on time, it not being destroyed, losing their bank books, and you know, wondering if their money is still in the bank, sometimes we’ve had issues was fraud. But all of that is things that we’re addressing through the modernization.”

The Acting Post Master is also addressing accommodations. She said, “we’re partially in rental spaces and other we own and others they are government buildings, administrative buildings. But some of them are no in the best shape, so we’re focused on upgrading our facilities, making them more secure and making them more functional in the community.”

The post office offers banking services that Johnson is also looking to improve through initiative like removing the cap on. “We pay the most interest on savings. We pay 5% interest on savings, right now its capped at up to $6,000.”

She added, ” we want to back to the days when people saved towards goals. You saved for the rainy days, you save for retirement, the car, the house, you didn’t necessary just borrow. And so we’re making it available to you through the savings plans.”

Johnson also said investment is being made to train the staff of the post office.
