Hurricane Oscar entered The Bahamas impacting the island of Inagua over the weekend. The island’s Administrator, Herman Gilbert spoke with ZNS News on Monday about the damage left behind by the storm.
He said, “the runway is cleared. There’s about 75% fence that is down. There has been roof damage, water is leaking on the inside. The generator was down, we were able to get that up and running so there is power to the airport at this time. The clinic is still roof compromised but there is a team, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force has disseminated a team to the clinic to address that problem, bring a temporary tarp to cover to stop the leakage. Still the clinic has no power and no water at this time. The police station no power, no water, roof in compromised.
At a press conference on Monday Minister responsible for the Disaster Risk Management Authority, the Hon. Leon Lundy assure that government officials were in contact with Island Administrators in the impacted islands and that supplies have been dispatched.
