Members of the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence (JCNP) were the guests on The Rundown talk show with host Clint Watson this week where they addressed the status of the Valley Boys Junkanoo group.
The two factions of the group, the World Class Valley Boys and Valley Boys: The Way Forward, have been embroiled in a dispute for sometime. Despite the fact that both groups have received seed money from the government it was determined by the JCNP by The Way Forward group would only be allowed to participate in the upcoming parades as a fun group.
JCNP Rules Committee Member, Rory Saunders explained the process. He said, “existing group only have to confirm that they wish to…that they are confirming their participation in the upcoming parades by that date. If they do not do that they are subject to the same rule that they didn’t submit their application. Those applications for new groups have a process where we look at them, they are brought to the body of the JCNP and whatever division they are trying to enter in there’s a vote that is taken and if their application is accepted a new group will then for the upcoming parade have to exhibit to show that they have the criteria to perform in the parade.”
