Press Release

Minister of Social Services, Senator the Honourable Barbara Cartwright, and Minister of State the Honourable Bacchus Rolle greeted His Majesty King Charles III during his visit to The Bahamas, an occasion highlighting the importance of service, compassion and opportunities for vulnerable people.

His Majesty also met with children from the Ranfurly Home for Children, bringing attention to the care, protection and development of children and the important role of institutions and caregivers in providing safe, nurturing environments.

The King’s longstanding charitable work includes initiatives addressing food insecurity and expanding opportunities for young people. The King’s Trust, established in 1976 as The Prince’s Trust, has supported young people in developing skills, pursuing education and employment, and building more secure futures.

These areas of service resonate with the Ministry of Social Services’ responsibilities in poverty reduction, child and family welfare, social protection, disability inclusion and support for older persons. The Ministry continues to place dignity, care and opportunity at the centre of its work on behalf of Bahamian communities.

The royal encounter and His Majesty’s meeting with children from the Ranfurly Home for Children underscore the enduring value of partnerships and collective action in improving lives, particularly for children and families who depend on strong systems of care.
