Bahamian Media News:

Members of the Judiciary and the legal fraternity took part in a procession the moved west on Bay Street beginning on Bank Lane ending on George Street where a church service was held at Christ Church Cathedral.

The message was delivered by the Rt. Rev. Laish Boyd.  He said, “whether the client is stranger or an acquaintance you for that day or for that season must be their loved one.  You must be their valued family member their best friend.  And what do loved ones and family members and best friends do?  They seek what is best.  So you’ve got to seek what is best for the client.”

Acting Registrar, Renaldo Toote spoke with ZNS News outside of the church about the changes that can be expected this legal year.  “We intend in 2025 to revamp and revise some of our court filing fees.  So under the legislation all crown fines will be returned to the government and they will be deposited to the Consolidated Fund but all court filing fees will remain inside the remittance of the Judiciary in order for us to carry out the much essential services that we need. So for this year, the theme for our legal year for the Judiciary under 2025 is Empowering Justice: Building On The Past To Create A Stronger Future,” he said.

For the first time in The Bahamas the Provost Marshall duties were carried out by a women, new Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles.
