Lundy assured the public that the government is ready for the hurricane season. “We have not waited for the skies to darken before taking action. Throughout the calm months the Disaster Risk Management Authority has been hard at work. We have taken a proactive approach to preparedness because in the face of disaster preparation is our greatest defense. One of our most significant achievements is the revamping of the national disaster readiness exercises. And this year in addition to our nationwide exercise, we are for the first time, conducting region specific exercises ensuring that each island command center is tailored and trained for the unique challenges of its location. This table top simulations bring all stakeholders to the table because coordination saves lives.”

There is expected to be 19 named storms this hurricane season. Nine of them are expected to become hurricanes and four expected to reach category 3 or higher in strength.
