Bahamian Media News:

Officials from Electro Technology Limited joined counterparts from the Ministry of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Department of Social Services, and the Senior Citizens Division, Department of Social Services, for the commissioning of an FG Wilson 30K diesel generator at the Mary Ingraham Intergenerational Centre.
(FG Wilson generators are described as high-quality diesel powered generators designed for both prime and back-up power application.)

The commissioning ceremony, (held Friday, October 4, 2024), was attended by Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Myles K. LaRoda, who was joined by Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Hon. Keith Bell, along with senior officials from the Department of Social Services.

Electro Technology Limited was part of a collaboration that furnished the Centre with air-conditioning — two gifts, officials hope will keep on giving. (Mr. Renaldo Roxbury, Sr., Mr. Tilly Burrows and Mr. Gurth Thompson were partners in the venture.)

Mr. Paul Smith, Electro Technology Limited, said the commissioning ceremony at the Mary Ingraham Home, was the first of three scheduled donations. He said the donation of generators (which officials described as extremely generous) afforded he and his family with an opportunity to thank the older persons across the country for their many contributions to Bahamian society.

“If we live long enough all of us will be old,” he said, “we cannot drop the ball when it comes to our senior citizens who have paid their dues in this society, they deserve everything, more than a generator, comfortable air-conditioned home. So please let us look carefully at these homes and what we are sending our older persons to when they get in their retirement home.

Minister LaRoda described both donations as an “act of benevolence” that will accomplish multiple goals.

“Those who are most affected by the heat are children and the elderly and so this donation comes at an opportune time,” Minister LaRoda said. “It is 90 degrees in October. That tells you that climate change is real and that summers are getting longer. The installation of air-conditioning will help to keep our Precious Pearls out of the heat.

“I thank you and your company for your benevolence. The three generators this size will go a long way. I know you could have very easily sold all three, and so the Department and Ministry are very much appreciative not only for the generators, but the air-conditioning you have also brought here. We look forward to greater collaboration in the future,” Minister LaRoda added.
