Minister Bowleg Encourages Straw Craft and Fashion Participants of 2025 Culture Summer Camps

The Bahamas — Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg recently visited Culture Apprenticeship Summer Camps, held at R.M. Bailey Senior High School.  The young apprentices had the opportunity to show the Minister the valuable skills they acquired in fashion and straw craft.

Minister Bowleg interacted with the Cultural Affairs Officer with Responsibility for Fashion Anja Bowe, Supervisor Colette Ferguson, and Instructors, Ashley Carey and Nathalia Pratt.  

He also recognized Ms. Carey as a camper from the previous year and gave encouragement to several apprentices about what they created, especially the only male camper Akaji James.

Joining Minister Bowleg on the camp tour were Ministry officials –Sandena Neely, Head of Division of Youth; Dereka Deleveaux-Grant, Acting Director of Culture; Rashard Ritchie, Assistant Director of Youth; Chanda Roberts, Youth Officer and Coordinator of Youth Apprenticeship Camps; Lauren-Ashley Heastie, Youth Officer and Assistant Coordinator of Youth Apprenticeship Camps; and Youth Officers of the Division of Youth.

The ministry conducts a wide range of camps every July, free of charge, for youth of The Bahamas.  From sporting to arts, craft, culinary, and carpentry, there are camps to meet most interests.
