During his remarks at the Official Opening of the 2025 E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival Adjudications, on March 3, 2025, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg said that the festival was “a cherished tradition, with a rich history that continues to serve as a beacon of creativity, culture, and artistic excellence in our nation”.
“Now in its 66th year, the National Arts Festival provides a platform for artists, musicians, dancers, dramatists, poets, film enthusiasts and performers of all ages to showcase their immense talent,” he said, during the event held at All Saints Anglican Church.
“It embodies the spirit of our rich cultural heritage and continues to nurture the artistic potential that resides within our people,” Minister Bowleg added. “This festival is not merely a competition — it is a celebration of who we are, a tribute to our artistic legacy, and a means of preserving and advancing our cultural identity.”
Among those present were Undersecretaries Dr. Bridgette Rolle and Gayle Outten-Moncur, Director of Culture Dereka Deleveaux-Grant, teachers, students, and scores of well-wishers.
That day was also the first of the New Providence Adjudications, and participants displayed their talent through drama and singing gospel songs.
Minister Bowleg commended all the festival’s participants for their “dedication and commitment to the arts”.
“Your willingness to express yourselves through your craft is inspiring and serves as a reminder of the boundless creativity that exists within our communities,” he said. “To our teachers, principals, parents and family members, we are grateful to you for your willingness to develop the talent of our participants and support them in endeavors of the arts. To our adjudicators, we are grateful for your expertise and for the invaluable guidance you provide in helping our artists refine and elevate their skills.”
Minister Bowleg added: “As we embark on another exciting season of the festival, I encourage everyone — parents, teachers, art enthusiasts, and the general public — to lend your unwavering support. Let us celebrate and uplift our artists. Let us ensure that their talents are not only recognized today but also nurtured for the future.”
He noted that the arts play a vital role in the development of a “vibrant and progressive society”, and that it was their collective responsibility to encourage and sustain that growth.
“With that, it is my distinct pleasure to declare the 2025 E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival officially open,” Minister Bowleg said. “May this season be one of inspiration, passion, and artistic excellence.
“Thank you, and best wishes to all participants.”
