The Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Minister of Health and Wellness, speaks with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) representatives Mr. Anton Edmunds, general manager, Caribbean Country Department; Shirley Gayle, Country Representative for The Bahamas; and Dr. Indira Martin, director National Reference Laboratory, on Monday, March 30, 2026 during a tour of the facility’s new site on Russell Road, Oakes Field. The Bahamas government in partnership with the IDB created the project to move the now existing National Reference Lab from its present location to the Russell Road site. The location will house offices and laboratory facilities for the Lab. The lab is to be moved by the end of May, Minister Darville said: they have to move in phases so that there will be little or no stoppage in work. Mr. Edmunds said with health being very important the IDB was happy to partner with the government.
