Ministry of Youth Gives Young Chefs an Inside Look at Albany

Bahamian Media News:

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, through its Division of Youth, recently hosted its Apprenticeship Camp with a special focus on cooking  – a program designed to give young Bahamians practical skills and insight into one of the most dynamic fields in the world.

As part of the camp’s schedule, participants were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Albany’s world-class food and beverage operations – an experience that underscored the critical role this sector plays in The Bahamas’ tourism trade.

Led by Executive Chef D’Angelo Charlton and guided through the sprawling kitchens by Chef Lamonte Lynes, the group stepped into the fast-paced, detail-driven environment that delivers unforgettable dining experiences to Albany’s guests. They watched the flow of operations from ingredient receiving and storage, to preparation, plating, and delivery, all while observing the strict hygiene and safety protocols that protect both the guest experience and the resort’s reputation.

The visit made clear that in The Bahamas, food and beverage is more than sustenance – it is a signature of hospitality, a reflection of culture, and a driver of economic success. Behind every exquisite dish lies the dedication of a well-trained team, and behind every satisfied guest is a story that begins in the kitchen.

The Albany tour was made possible through the generous support of the resort, with Vice President of Food & Beverage Ivan Haller championing the initiative and ensuring the participants gained a meaningful, real-world perspective on the industry.

“Life in the kitchen is more than cooking – it’s discipline, creativity, and teamwork. It’s where raw talent becomes refined skill, and where the next generation of Bahamian chefs can discover just how far their passion can take them,” said Haller.

“At Albany, we are committed to creating opportunities that help shape and showcase amazing Bahamian talent,” added Executive Chef Charlton.

By the end of the day, the young apprentices left with not only enhanced culinary skills from the camp as a whole, but also a deeper understanding of the role food and beverage play in shaping The Bahamas’ standing as a premier destination.

The Apprenticeship Camp continues to stand as a testament to the Ministry’s commitment to youth development, offering experiences that inspire the next generation to pursue their passions with professionalism and pride.
