Moxey: We’re In The Project Preparation Phase

Bahamian Media News:

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey recently provided an update on the development of the Afro-Caribbean Market at the former site of the International Bazaar in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Moxey told ZNS News, “we are working collaboratively with the owners of the International Bazaar because we, of course, acquiring that as well as the Harcourt Properties which is the Princess Tower and Casino.  And so that is a work in progress the AG’s counsel is dealing directly with the property owners.”

The Minister also said that the government is working with the Grand Bahama Port Authority concerning outstanding fees owed to it by parties involved in the deal.

According to the Minister the project will address issues such as the Princess Towers, the International Bazaar and the closure of West Sunrise Highway.  “The government did budget for it in the 2024-25 budget period and so we’re looking to quickly close on that so that we can get going with the development but it will be a game changing opportunity for Grand Bahama island.  We do know that 54 African countries will be represented, 20 Caribbean countries, 16 islands of The Bahamas. And so it’s the best these countries have to offer with arts and crafts, music, dance and the like. It will also bring B2B opportunities to Grand Bahama Island,” Moxey said.

The project will include a logistics center that will offer approximately 1000 job opportunities.
