Bahamian Media News:

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture announced the launch of the 2025 National Youth Summer Employment Programme and Summer Camps for the Northern Bahamas during a press conference on Thursday, June 5 2025, held at the Ministry for Grand Bahama’s Conference Room.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg stated that the programme aims to employ over 500 high school and college students. Participants will be placed in various departments under the ministry, as well as across corporate Bahamas, offering valuable work experience and professional development opportunities.

“We are happy and elated that we had an overwhelming number of persons applying,” Minister Bowleg said.

While the application portal for the summer employment programme has now closed, the Minister noted that registration remains open for the summer camp, particularly for youths residing in the Northern Bahamas.

Deputy Director of Sports Norris Bain noted that the camp will offer a diverse range of disciplines, including flag football, softball, track and field, basketball and swimming.

In addition, the ministry is inviting students in grades one through six to participate in the ministry’s “I Matter Summer Camp,” to be held at Walter Parker Primary School. This camp will offer activities to include karate, sports, fine arts, music and more.

The summer employment programme and camps will run from Monday, July 7 to Friday, August 1, 2025.

Culture Officer in the Division of Cultural Affairs Lechea Charles announced plans to employ 30 students across cultural organisations in Grand Bahama, including the performance alive camp, film camp and other creative institutions on the island.

She also shared the upcoming launch of a new Junkanoo summer camp, which will run in two-week cohorts. This camp is expected to welcome 100 students, preparing them to participate in future Junkanoo parades.

The Government of The Bahamas remains committed to providing free summer employment and personal growth opportunities for youths equipping them with essential skills, professional training, and engaging activities during the summer break.
