The Ministry of Labour and the Public Service has announced the appointment of Mr. Kendrick Knowles Sr. as the new Executive Chairman of the National Training Agency (NTA), marking a new chapter in the Agency’s ongoing mission to strengthen workforce development across The Bahamas.
Mr. Knowles brings to the role a distinguished 39-year career at the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), where he rose from trainee technician to senior management. Over the course of his career, he led major teams across multiple islands, contributed to the expansion of national digital infrastructure, and played a key role in advancing connectivity throughout The Bahamas. “Kendrick Knowles brings a wealth of experience in leadership, development, and workforce training that aligns closely with the mission of the NTA,” said Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle.
His experience spans technical operations, product development, business strategy, and workforce leadership, directly aligning with the NTA’s mandate to prepare Bahamians for meaningful
employment.
He also brings significant leadership experience through his service in the Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union, where he served in multiple senior roles, including President, advocating for improved professional standards and workforce development across key national institutions. “Mr. Knowles’s career reflects a deep understanding of the link between skills, opportunity, and national progress,” said Minister Glover-Rolle. “We are confident that under his leadership, the Agency will continue to grow and deliver meaningful results for Bahamians.”
Mr. Knowles succeeds Ms. Agatha Marcelle, whose decades-long career in workforce development
helped shape the institution and its mission.
Ms. Marcelle dedicated over 40 years to advancing training, education, and opportunity for
Bahamians, and played a central role in establishing the NTA and guiding its growth.
Minister Glover-Rolle acknowledged the foundation laid by Agatha Marcelle, noting that her legacy
will continue to influence future efforts at the agency.
“As we say goodbye to Ms. Marcelle, we thank her for her years of service and for the role she played in building a strong foundation for workforce development in The Bahamas, and we now look forward to building on that foundation under the leadership of Mr. Knowles.”
As the National Training Agency continues its work, the Ministry of Labour and the Public Service remains focused on expanding access to training, strengthening workforce readiness, and ensuring that Bahamians are equipped with the skills needed to succeed in a modern, competitive economy. The NTA plays a central role in this effort, connecting training programmes with labour market demand, supporting certification and career readiness, and creating clearer pathways from training
to employment.
Through continued investment in upskilling and reskilling initiatives, the Ministry’s objective is to broaden opportunities for Bahamians across all islands, particularly in emerging and high-demand sectors. This includes strengthening partnerships with the private sector, expanding programme accessibility, and ensuring that training, through the NTA and other agencies, remains responsive to the evolving needs of the economy.
