President of the National Congress of Trade Unions of The Bahamas, Dwayne Woods released a statement on Sunday evening announcing that his organization was not in support of the industrial action called for by the Trade Union Congress led by Obie Ferguson.
Woods spoke to reporters outside of the BCPOU Hall on Monday. He said, “we have not been advised of the reason or reasons for such an action.”
He added, “if they’ve been having social dialogue and they wanted to pull off a national sick out or national strike then I think all three congress should have collaborated together.”
Woods is of the belief that a memorandum of understanding signed by Ferguson with the Progressive Liberal Party in 2021, while they were in opposition, is at the heart of Ferguson’s concerns. He said, “not all of our issues in our congress are solved. We still have matters to be solved. As late as this morning I would have given the Prime Minister a call and he’s already invited our congress to a meeting to resolve our matters and we intend to go by way of social dialogue.”
According to Woods his organization was never invited to collaborate with the Trade Union Congress. “We are unaware of what they’re issues are so it’ll wrong for me to say where they are.”
The NCTUB President called the actions by the TUC archaic and in poor taste.
