Former senator Darron Pickstock was sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Golden Isles in the House of Assembly on Wednesday. Pickstock, who represented the Progressive Liberal Party, won the by-election held on November 24th.
After Pickstock recited the oath of office, Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis welcomed Pickstock to the lower chamber. He said, “it was not easy, but he overcame. This is the Bahamian story, the Bahamian dream where persons don’t have to be limited by their circumstance. It’s not how you start, it’s how you end. And between starting and where you are if you put in the work and you stay steady, ensure that God is always in your life you will succeed and I hold him up, again, as an example to what we can do and be in this country. “
Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard also shared words of welcome for the new member. He said, “it is an important point that a number of is hail from public schools and I think this is a good opportunity send a message to many of our young people who believe that very little comes out of the public school system and it’s absolutely not true. Your election is, again, a continued part of that message that notwithstanding where one starts out you have the capacity to achieve great things.”
Pickstock now holds the seat in Parliament left vacant after the death of the Late Hon. Vaughn Miller.
