A meeting of stakeholders in the Valley Boys Junkanoo group dispute was held on Sunday at the Baha Mar Resort.
Following the meeting, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg provided an update to reporters. He said, “the whole idea of this meeting was to see if we could have a united front with both sides and so that the Valley Boys would go on Bay Street as one. Obviously after deliberations with both sides it appears that this united front is not seen right now.”
Minister Bowleg added that he had just learned that the group has been in turmoil for a while. “It’s just that they would have moved forward last two parades at a united front. We were hoping that would happen this time. There was something placed before both to determine coming together but again, its seems like again these cuts are very deep.”
The matter has been turned over to the Office of the Attorney General along with lawyers of both factions, Valley Boys: The Way Forward led by Trevor Davis and The World Famous Valley Boys led by Brian Adderley.
At a press conference last week, Bowleg announced that seed money for the group has been placed on hold pending the outcome of Sunday’s meeting. The minister said, “the last straw will be made this week and then whatever happens, happens.”
