Nurses returned to work on Monday after staging a sick out for five days over unpaid overtime. Some nurses had not been paid overtime since October 2025.
On Monday Bahamas Nurses Union President, Muriel Lightbourn told ZNS News that payments were expected to be received on Monday.
Lightbourn also said she met with Public Hospitals Authority Deputy Director, Dr. Keva Thompson to speak on unresolved issues. “These things I would have brought to the Minister’s attention as well as the PS attention and they’re still “stalling it out” or some things are still under investigation and they are being passed down for other persons to sanction.
The nurses union president appealed to health minister, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville to meet with the union. She said, “I would encourage the minister to let’s sit down and see how we could bring a quick resolve to their matter. I appreciate what he did for PHA (Public Hospitals Authority) and all of us are rejoicing for what he did for PHA, but now extend that to your children in DPH (Department of Public Health).
