An official ceremony was held for the opening of the Eight Mile Rock Police Station on Tuesday. The station is located in the Obadiah Wilchcombe Complex in Eight Mile Rock.
Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, the Hon. Kingsley Smith spoke with ZNS News about the opening. He said, “my predecessor the late Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, his vision was to see that all the government services are provided in Eight Mile Rock, one of the biggest settlements in the country. And here today is a testament of a government ensuring that its citizens have those services and they are housed in descent environment. Where the police was originally located they’re now here in a brand new complex most suiting and fitted for the Royal Bahamas Police Force.”
Smith added, “Eight Mile Rock is a community made up of families that are close knit. And so again, just like every family you have some disputes, some activities and the police presence here in Eight Mile Rock over the years they have been doing a very good job throughout the community. They’re present, they’re through the schools, they are doing events, they are holding giveaways. And so the relationship the police force build through this community is outstanding and it’s commendable.”
