Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard led a press conference held at Free National Movement headquarters on Tuesday where he spoke about the high cost of food among other things.
Government officials attended the opening of a farming initiative in the Centreville constituency late last week. Pintard said, “the Prime Minister and his team for all of their claim of bringing sexy back to agriculture as if sexy has ever fed a single Bahamian family. They have failed. They have failed to reduce imports by 5%, 4%, 3%, 2%. They could not identify a single product including eggs that they have reduced the imports by 1%, forgive me, 1/2%. So we do not take his food security program seriously and we do not take seriously his claims that he is working with stakeholders to reduce the cost of food being sold in our food stores.”
The Opposition Leader also affirmed the FNM’s support for capital punishment. He said, “we support capital punishment for the role it could play as a deterrent as well as punishment. And we believe wherever the executive and the parliament can make adjustments within our laws to make the process more efficient that they ought to act. They ought not to vacillate on the issues.”
Pintard’s comments on capital punishment came after the deaths of a 12 year old girl and 72 year old woman who were both sexually assaulted and murdered.
