Parliamentary Commissioner, Harrison Thompson has responded to calls by Free National Movement Leader, Michael Pintard for his removal and that of Neil Campbell.
Pintard held a press conference on Monday where he also called the integrity of the election and the voter’s register into question. Thompson spoke with ZNS News on Tuesday. He said, “I offer no comment to the call for my resignation. Also to advise the public that Mr. Neil Campbell has not been appointed as a Returning Officer or Presiding Officer or any roll in that capacity for the upcoming elections.”
The Parliamentary Commissioner also dispelled rumours of the use of translators at polling stations. “There will be no foreign interpreters at any of the polling stations engaged by the PRD Department,” he said.
Pintard also stressed the need for international observers to monitor for irregularities during the election process. Thompson assured that observers will be here. He said, “election observers are normal thing that happens now at election time. For the last three elections in The Bahamas international observers are invited to come and observe our elections and there’ll be no change this year.”
Thompson also released a statement in response to the Opposition Leader. He urged parties and public figures to exercise care in their public comments saying that civil servants operating under the law deserve fairness and respect.
