Peter Roker Resumes Charitable Work Ahead of Gas Station Launch

Bahamian Media News:

Peter Roker, a petroleum retailer of some four decades, was always known for his philanthropy. Roker’s Gas Station on Carmichael Road West was a popular spot for fuel, because Mr. Roker would consistently conduct marketing campaigns with give-backs to his patrons.

He and Bernard “Porky” Dorsett are touted for their efforts to give back to Bahamians, with a drop of twenty-five cents in the price of fuel after midnight. Mr. Roker sold his popular station, but is gearing up to launch the new and improved Roker’s Gas Station right on the Milo Butler Highway.

Philanthropy has always been a big part of his business; and his new station, set to open in the coming weeks, is no exception. He has decided to continue his philanthropy at the new gas station by resuming his commitment to donate $500 per month to institutions within the community.

The first to benefit from the $500 was the Carmichael Urban Renewal. Mr. Roker said he was impressed by the community-building efforts conducted by Urban Renewal, and he thought it fit to launch the new Roker’s Gas Station philanthropy with them.

On hand to receive the cheque was Inspector Nicola Ferguson and Sergeant Kenisha Forbes of Carmichael Urban Renewal. They thanked Mr. Roker, his wife Coretta and son Brandon for presenting them with the cheque, which will serve to assist in the work to empower children and the community in Carmichael.

Mr. Roker has every space with soil on his property taken up with banana trees, noting that everyone, homeowners and business owners, “need to take food security seriously”. He said if everyone adopted the approach of planting to feed themselves, The Bahamas would be a happier, healthier nation. The very first bunch of bananas, a healthy group of more than 50 fruits, was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert of Tasty Caribbean Delight, Faith Avenue North, nearby Roker’s Gas Station. The proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Children’s Emergency Hostel, McKinney Drive. All produce grown at Roker’s Gas Station will be donated to various charitable organisations.
