PHA Decision To Place Patients In PMH Chapel Defended

Bahamian Media News:

Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville was questioned by members of media about the decision of the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) to house patients in the chapel of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Dr. Darville explained the move is due to renovations underway at PMH.  He said, “this is not the first time as a result of renovations and some of the facilities not being up to par and need to complete the renovations that we have used the chapel before.  This is clearly the right thing to do because we do not want individual in an area that needs repair.  The area that we’re gonna repair now is in the legacy ward.  We’re gonna go from the foundation up.  We’re gonna put the dialysis beds in place and then we’re gonna renovate the eye ward and the eye theatre and then we’re gonna go up to the adolescents.”

The Minister also said that renovations to the Accident and Emergency Department of PMH will be revealed in a month.  “It’s gonna be something that I believe the Bahamian people are gonna be very proud of us.  To see what we have been doing for the last three years to ensure that individuals who come to our accident and emergency not have access to quality healthcare services but as well as our staff to not be so cramp because we are currently renovating 70% of the accident and emergency at the Princess Margaret Hospital,” Dr. Darville said.

Minister Darville also appealed to the public to bare with the government during the renovation process.
