Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis led debate on the 2025/2026 budget in the House Of Assembly on Monday.
During his presentation Mr. Davis explained the difference between a balanced budget and a budget surplus. His comments came after members of the opposition questioned the validity of the claim that this is the first ever balanced budget since independence. He said, “a balanced budget occurs when revenue matches expenditure, not when revenue is close but still less than expenditure, that’s a balanced budget.”
The Prime Minister announced that middle managers in the public service will receive an increase in salary at the end of June with a second phase to come in September. He also said health insurance will be expanded for civil servants.
“This initiative will provide broader protection for our public officers, reduce out of pocket medical costs and improve overall access to health care for those who serve our nation. We are also modernizing the delivery of health care benefits by enhancing the national insurance program,” he said.
