Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was questioned about his views on campaign finance on Tuesday while at a contract signing event at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The issue of campaign finance recently came up when Leader of the Opposition and leader of the Free National Movement, the Hon. Michael Pintard denied accepting $5 million in campaign donations from the Grand Bahama Port Authority. He in turn accused the Progressive Liberal Party of the same which was denied by Prime Minister Davis. Pintard also challenged the Progressive Liberal Party to release their list of donors.
Mr. Davis told reporters on Tuesday, “the priority for me now is to relieve the pain that my people are feeling right now by providing fresh, potable water for people in Cat Island, family island infrastructure and development and ensuring that I’m able to improve their lives. Campaign finance legislation ain’t gonna improve their lives right now. We’ve done a lot, a lot has to be done and I’m focused on getting those things done to relieve the pain and suffering of some of our people.”
On whether he will release the names of Progressive Liberal Party donors, the Prime Minister said, “I will not disclose the donors to our campaign unless the donors will be willing to allow me to do it.”
