PM Touts Continued Economic Recovery

Bahamian Media News:

The Progressive Liberal Party commemorated the third anniversary of its 2021 election win at a church service on Sunday.

After the service Prime Minister, the Hon.  Philip Davis spoke with reporters about the ongoing economic recovery in the country.  He said, “by lowering import duties on a number of things, increasing the minimum wage all that was designed to cushion the impact of inflation.”

Davis added, “its looking at all of our imports and the persons who control imports, the dock to see how their charging, the shipping and that’s what we’re looking at.  So that’s the emphasis now to see how we can ensure we tackle those issues that are causing prices…we think we understand what it is and we’re gonna tackle it to ensure that those savings goes on to our people.”

The Prime Minister also commented on the prices of fuel as petroleum retailers continue to press for a profit margin increase.  “We will strike the balance with them.  We understand their plight.  We are concerned about their survivability as well and we’ll be addressing that as well. At the same time we’re trying to balance that along with what we pass on to the consumers.”

Davis acknowledged that more needs to be done to make sure that prices come down across the board.
