Allegations of rape and assault have been made against a sitting Member of Parliament who has not yet been interviewed by police. Officer In Charge of the Northern Bahamas District, Assistant Commissioner of Police B.K. Bonamy Jr. gave comment on the matter.
Bonamy said, “I never mentioned no person. I never mentioned no MP. We would do all our background checks, we will do our work before we decide to move forward. Whoever the complaint is made against before we sit down to interview anybody we want to make sure we get all our witnesses who can assist with the investigation.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper also weighed in on the allegations saying, “there is a complaint with the police in relation to some very serious allegations. I am certain that the police will investigate aggressively and we believe in the rule of law and we are confident that due process will prevail and the police will do their jobs.”
