Police: Regulations For Junkanoo Parades

Officials of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) and the National Junkanoo Committee (NJC) held a joint press conference on Tuesday about the upcoming Junkanoo parades.

Police assured that the parades will be safe for those in attendance. In addition to the prohibition of firearms, knives and other sharp objects, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Roberto Goodman outlined some of the other security measures that will be in place. He said, “you will have to go through a scanner on entering the parade zone. The area will also be a no bottle area where no bottles or even can. Can beers will sometimes be sold at some of the various establishments in the Bay Street area.”

There will also be street closures before and during the parades. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mareno Hinds said, “the entire Shirley Street from Elizabeth Avenue all the way to Navy Lion Road that will be a sterile area for the parade. And then, of course, Prince George Wharf to the very north and that is bordered by the sea that will sterile.”

Sr. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zhivargo Dames assured spectators who will park their vehicles in the surrounding areas of the parade that officers will be on patrol on foot and in cars. d, “we have also with us this time around private security who will also be helping.”

The 2025 Boxing Day Junkanoo parade is set to begin on December 25th at 9pm.
