At a recent press event President of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Ian Rolle addressed investor confidence saying that it remains strong and pointing to investment projects underway in Freeport.
He said, “as we stand now various parties, the Port Authority, the Government, the Chamber, Tourism, all have been working feverishly to bring new business activities to Grand Bahama and all the activities now happening took years.”
Rolle recounted a meeting with an investor who acknowledged the visible progress being made on the island. “He asked me to come and visit him and to tour his facility and he said that he is so thankful that we, meaning the Grand Bahama Port Authority and others, continue to press on to make certain things happen in the community. He is now feeling significant activity in the tourism space and he’s spending a lot more money to develop his property and also wants to buy other property to facilitate growth in his business. So he is just one of the few persons who have been connected and can see what’s going on in the economy.”
Though there are several projects in various stages of development on the island like Carnival’s Celebration Key and the Six Senses property, Rolle urged impatient Grand Bahama resident to remain optimistic and focus on developing new skills. He said, “be positive and prepare yourself. And that could mean going to various classes, learning how to do bookkeeping, watching your various business shows on YouTube to understand the trends that are happening. Create something very special and unique even that doesn’t exist in the Carnival cruise port, you’ll be more inclined for people to actually want to use your service or come to support your business.”
