Price Inspectorate staff deployed to ensure compliance with new 5% VAT rate on foods

Price Inspectorate staff of the Consumer Affairs Unit conducted special inspections, April 1, 2025 to ensure compliance with the new 5% VAT rate on foods sold in grocery stores, convenience stores and service stations (except deli-prepared foods, candy, and sugary drinks).  

The Consumer Affairs Unit, upon implementation of the new VAT rate, April 1, deployed price inspectorate teams at  Solomon’s Supercenter – Old Trail;
Cost Right – Old Trail; Buy 4 Less – Blue Hill Road; Budget Meat – Faith Avenue; Super Value – Nassau Street; John Chea – Boyd Road.  Pictured, a price inspector assists customers at Solomon’s and Cost Right.
