Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Hon. Philip Davis, accompanied by Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources the Hon. Jomo Campbell led a delegation on a four-hour tour of key agriculture and marine resource projects across New Providence, February 17, 2026 — underscoring the government’s continued investment in food security, marine sustainability, and infrastructure development.
The delegation also included the Minister of Works & Family Island Affairs, the Hon. Clay Sweeting; Executive Chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC), Senator the Hon. Darren Pickstock; senior government executives and officials; and members of the local media.
The first stop was a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Department of Marine Resources on East Bay Street, marking the official opening of its newly renovated office space. Director Dr. Lester Gittens noted that the project took approximately two years to complete. He explained that the expanded facility will significantly enhance the department’s operational capacity by housing additional technical staff who will focus on climate change initiatives, research, and improved data collection to support sustainable marine resource management.
The delegation then traveled to Potter’s Cay Dock to view ongoing construction of the new passenger and freight terminal. The project is a joint collaboration between D&T Shipping and the Government of The Bahamas and is expected to modernize dock operations, improve efficiency, and strengthen the movement of goods and passengers throughout the Family Islands.
The tour concluded at The Cultivation Centre and the Golden Yolk site on Gladstone Road, where officials observed agricultural development efforts aimed at boosting domestic food production and advancing national food security objectives.
The ministry’s visitation tour highlights the government’s continued commitment to strengthening The Bahamas’ agriculture and marine sectors through strategic infrastructure upgrades and sustainable development initiatives.
