On World Engineering Day, representatives of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB) paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Dame Cynthia A. Pratt, GCMG, Governor General of The Bahamas. The meeting focused on the vital role engineers play in national development and included an update on activities celebrating World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development.

During the meeting, Her Excellency expressed interest in learning more about the engineering profession. Registrar Engineer Wellington Neely described engineering as “the art and science of harnessing the power of nature in an efficient and safe manner.”

Engineers also discussed how their work supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Engineer Mario Bastian spoke on water resource management and its challenges; Engineer Kevin Bastian highlighted the importance of reliable electricity; Engineer Dillon Knowles addressed innovation and industry; and Engineer Robert Mouzas, Director of Public Works shared insights into national infrastructure.

In recognition of World Engineering Day, the PEB will host a distinguished lecture on March 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Harry C. Moore Auditorium, University of The Bahamas.
