Minister of Economic Affairs, Sen. Hon. Michael Halkitis appeared at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister last week where he fielded questions from members of the media.
Halkitis was asked about the government’s review of public sector salaries. He said, “it’s ongoing I’ll have to give you an update at a later time. You know the idea is…again we have a very sort of rigid salary scale structure in the public service that puts the public service at a disadvantage when you’re competing with the private sector for professionals. And so that idea was to look at the salaries, what is being paid in the public sector and how we can improve it so we can attract more individuals. That is underway.”
The government has allocated $10 million for this process.
