Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle recently provided an update on the service wide promotions exercise for public servants initiated by the Davis administration.
According to the minister the initiative allows public servants to move up the ladder within the public sector every two years. Glover-Rolle explained, “service wide is an exercise that addresses a certain group of individuals in the public service. Then there’s something called AS assessments, FAS assessments and then general promotions. General promotions are constantly ongoing. To date we have executed well into four thousand promotions in our public service.”
The minister said one of the challenges encountered during the exercise is dealing with analog files. “Fortunately we’re moving away from that. We’re seeing ease of process and that will augur well for the workers of the public service.”
The government is currently utilizing Oracle, a data management software, to digitize analog files within the public service. Glover-Rolle said the software “is going to help us improve the efficiency and effectiveness of human resource and financial services to our employees and of course that is also going to help us improve in process.”
The minister hopes to conclude the promotions exercise early next year.
